Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Abba iOS application and the services provided by Epiphany Labs. By downloading and using Abba, you agree to these terms.

1. Use License

Epiphany Labs grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to download and use Abba on your iPhone solely for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or license the app without prior written permission from Epiphany Labs.

2. What Abba Is and Is Not

Abba is a spiritual coaching application grounded in the teachings of the Coptic Orthodox Church. It is not a replacement for a priest, therapist, medical professional, or crisis service. Abba is not a medical device and does not provide medical, psychiatric, or clinical advice. If you are in crisis, please contact a trusted person, a priest, or call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States).

3. Your Content and Data

Abba is designed to keep your data private. Your conversations, journal entries, and session history are stored on your device and not retained by Epiphany Labs servers. If you enable iCloud backup, Apple manages that encryption. You retain all rights to your content.

4. AI Generated Responses

Abba uses artificial intelligence to generate responses. These responses are based on training data including the teachings of Pope Shenouda III, the Desert Fathers, and Orthodox Christian theology. However, AI-generated content may contain errors or imperfect interpretations. If a response feels theologically incorrect or causes concern, please email us at mina@epiphanylabs.io.

5. Safety and Inappropriate Content

Abba includes safety systems to detect and redirect serious risk (self-harm, crisis). If the app detects such content, it will offer resource suggestions rather than a coaching response. This is not a substitute for professional crisis support.

6. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS-IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. EPIPHANY LABS DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR ACCURACY OF RESULTS. Use Abba at your own risk. Epiphany Labs is not liable for damages arising from your use of the app, including lost profits, personal injury, or emotional distress.

7. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Epiphany Labs be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages related to your use of Abba, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the app is to discontinue use.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Epiphany Labs, its officers, and employees from any claims arising from your use of Abba, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or third party right.

9. Subscriptions and Billing

Abba offers a free tier (30 messages per month) and an optional paid tier, "Guided" (unlimited messaging and weekly insights). Subscriptions are managed through Apple's App Store and billed according to Apple's terms. You can cancel anytime in Settings. Refund requests should be directed to Apple.

10. Termination

Epiphany Labs reserves the right to terminate your access to Abba if you violate these terms or engage in unlawful activity. Upon termination, your right to use the app ceases immediately.

11. Modifications to Terms

Epiphany Labs may update these terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, in some cases, by sending you notice. Your continued use of Abba constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Jurisdiction and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in Los Angeles County, California.

13. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be severed, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force.
